Memorial Day is the day when the whole nation joins in commemorating those of its sons who have fallen in battle since the establishment of the State of Israel.

Since the day the War of Liberation ended, when we fought for Israel's independence, our enemies forced another two wars upon us - the Sinai Campaign in 1956 and the Six-Day War in 1967.

The Jewish nation dwelling in Zion and throughout the world, on this day unites in commemoration of its precious sons - those who fell for their country and who paid with their lives for that independence to which our nation had aspired for generations; of those who fought in the two later wars in order to add strength to their nation, and of those who sacrificed their lives to ensure the Nation's sovereignty in its State.

At this time we remember them and - sad at heart - we are proud of them.
